On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Region III of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics Wyoming, hosted a Unified Torch Run Relay spanning three counties and three Wyoming communities.  The event brought together law enforcement officers, Special Olympics athletes, and community supporters in a powerful demonstration of inclusion, teamwork, and dedication to the mission of Special Olympics.

Trooper Danny Robinett, Deputy Director and Region III Co-Coordinator for the Law Enforcement Torch Run, assisted with coordinating the relay efforts across the region to help ensure the event’s success.

The relay began at 0830 hours at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie.  Officers and athletes carried the Flame of Hope from the stadium down Grand Avenue to the steps of the Albany County Courthouse.  Following the run, officers, athletes, and supporters gathered for a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.

The Flame of Hope was then transferred from the Laramie participants to Laramie County officers and Trooper Kennedy, and Special Olympics athlete Samantha Johnson at the Albany County and Laramie County line on Wyoming Highway 210.

The relay continued into Cheyenne, where officers and athletes carried the Flame of Hope down Central Avenue, across Lincolnway, and north on Capitol Avenue to the Wyoming State Capitol.  Special Olympic and LETR supporters joined participants along the route, and another group photograph was taken on the steps of the Capitol following the run.

The Flame of Hope was later transferred from Laramie County officers and Special Olympics athlete Steven Singleton to Trooper Sinner at the Laramie County and Goshen County line.

The final leg of the relay brought the Flame of Hope into Torrington.  Due to prior commitments and staffing limitations among several local agencies, additional officers were unavailable to participate in the Torrington portion of the run.  Trooper Robinett stepped forward to ensure the Flame of Hope continued through the community in honor of Goshen County’s Special Olympics athletes.

However, he did not run alone.  Brenna Ralston, a reporter with the Torrington Telegram, arrived expecting to conduct an interview.  Instead, without hesitation, she joined Trooper Robinett and ran through Torrington alongside him, helping to ensure the Flame of Hope to reach its destination.

The success of the 2026 Region III Torch Run Relay would not have been possible without the support and assistance of Kayla Robinett, Region III LETR Co-Coordinator, The Wyoming Highway Patrol, The Laramie Police Department, The University of Wyoming Police Department, The Cheyenne Police Department, The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, The Torrington Police Department, Brenna Ralston from the Torrington Telegram, Special Olympics Wyoming, and the incredible Special Olympics athletes throughout Region III.

Community members are encouraged to watch for future Law Enforcement Torch Run events in their local areas.  Anyone interested in becoming involved can contact their local Special Olympics or LETR coordinator or the Special Olympics Wyoming office in Casper.
